All done with my 8th week-long bicycle ride across Iowa, known as RAGBRAI. It started with 2 tough 3-H days of heat, humidity, and hills, but the rest of the week it cooled off and was nice. I took a very cheap (about $40 on eBay) Minolta 35mm film camera with me and shot a bunch of rolls. This QTsi is a good but very basic camera that uses all the great auto-focus lenses from Minolta. I tried all the different modes on the settings and did use the manual focus a few times. I

It is waaay more than a bicycle ride. It is an unreal world with people from around the world.

The last time I was 250 something I think it was before high school. It took me a while. I stick to a healthy version of the Atkins plan. As low carbs as I can, lots of vegetables, no sugar, lots of label reading. Modern drugs helped in the last year. And lots of walks, hikes, bicycle rides indoors and outside.

Preparing for my 8th RAGBRAI, the 7-day bicycle tour across Iowa, is a mental and physical challenge. With about 60 miles each day for 7 days, you’ll need to get ready for many hours on a bike. This week, I spent 3 hours on my Sunny Health Spin Bike, burning 1700 calories in Zone 2. I’ve had this spin bike for a while and have put in many hours on it. Power meters and interactive video apps that connect to your bicycle are nice, but you don’t need them or a monthly fee. I use

Around 20,000 riders travel through small farming towns, and we have a great time. Some days are challenging due to the 4 Hs: headwinds, heat, humidity, hills, and occasionally rain.
