You Ought To Be Having Fun!

So happy to see Tower Of Power in Vegas at Westgate recently. Another great show. Look for them to do another “residency” at Yoshi’s in Oakland.

I am such a big big BIG fan.

I think Tower Of Power was the first band I could name when I heard them on the radio. I was mostly listening to 3 stations in the Bay Area when I was about 10.

KTIM was an AM/FM hippie play everything kind of station in San Rafael. KSAN FM was a big station that played a little bit of a lot of different rock music. “13 10” KDIA was a really popular AM soul station. Tower Of Power was on all 3 as the hippies, bikers, rockers, and soul - funk fans all liked them, and their 1st album was a big hit. Plus they were a local Oakland band so it all made for good reasons to be played on the air.

To a very young me all the other music on the stations was a jumbled up sound of “what they played” and at the time I didn’t know the names of the bands but I knew the distinct music and name of Tower of Power when I heard it on the air.

Oakland was pretty happening then with Tower Of Power, Raiders, Warriors, A’s winning 3 World Series, the Grand National Roadster Show and more. The East Bay was a fun place to grow up.
