Film Photo Walk Primm Nevada

I was part of a group of about 35 Las Vegas area film photographers that met for a photowalk in Primm, Nevada May 30th 2026. The town is at the California and Nevada border on both sides of I-15 or as some say "The 15."

It is a popular spot for getting gas and charging up cars. There is a mostly shut down mall with incredible murals at the back entrance. There are some big casinos in Primm. Only Primm Valley Resort is still open full time.

Buffalo Bill's is only open for special events at the theater. The Desperado rollercoaster at Buffalo Bill's is closed. It opened in 1994 and was recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's tallest roller coaster in 1996.

On the other side of the freeway Whiskey Pete's closed in 2024.

The Primm Valley Lotto Store is just inside the California border. It is the closest place for Las Vegas area residents or visitors to buy a lottery ticket.

The group that ran things there announced they were shutting everything down in July 2026 but it was announced on June 9th that the Terrible Herbst company will be taking over the gas stations, casinos, and other business in July.

I am sure some changes will be happening. The photo walk was a chance to document things as they were at the end of May 2026.

The Prizm mall had a rebranding to appeal to younger visitors back in 2019. From the Las Vegas Review Journal:

"Prizm tapped roughly 30 muralists and street artists from more than 15 countries earlier this year with the intention of making it the largest street art and mural location in the country. The mall has spent more than $2 million in recent upgrades, according to its website."

You can't walk around inside anymore so I don't know what is still there. A post at Atlas Obscure has some photos.

Not everything outside is still there. There is a website and Instagram page with photos and info on the art that was part of the Primm mall.

primmmall.com/art says Mural Oasis is an elaborate mural art collection that provides visitors with a unique opportunity to access and enjoy public art with 34 distinguished world renowned artists from around the world. It is one of the largest collections in the world involving over 93,000 square feet of 126 street art murals. The essence of this project is to create a fully immersive walkable experience by utilizing the most powerful and engaging art form.

The Instagram muraloasis has posts but has not been active since April 1 2021. Yes, April Fools' Day.

I really hope the murals I could see survive. Of course they are in color and I think they are just amazing. If the mall reopened this courtyard entrance, just across from the Lotto Store, it would make a great gathering spot. Maybe it could be a place for ride sharing or a shuttle stop for Primm visitors staying at the hotels.

Keep checking back as I plan to take some color photos of this art and share here at this post.

As of May 2026 it looks like the birds are staking out their claim.

Thank you to Alien Film Lab and Yoro’s Film Lab of Las Vegas for putting the event together.

I shot with color film in a Minolta Autocord, some black and white 35mm Film Ferrania P33, ORWO Wolfen UN54, and Kentmere 100 film in "the pocket marvel" Olympus XA (review 1 review 2 and my favorite "modern" vintage 35mm camera from back in the day a Minolta 7000i.
