Less than a hour from the Las Vegas Strip is the always amazing Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area
There are lots of things to do and see there for rock climbing, hiking, bicycling, camping, guided tours, horse trail rides and more
The popular scenic drive in the pay area is 13 miles long and has a visitor center and some of the best views
These photos are from a free to access part of Red Rocks called the Calico Basin with parking at the Red Spring Picnic Area. This is where you can use the Red Spring Boardwalk (wheelchair friendly) to take you close to the rocks and landscape on a round trip that is an easy 0.5 mile walk. There are interpretive signs and shady spots but no water on the boardwalk.
The camera used for this was a Pentax W20 - a Goodwill find - released in the mid 2000's. It is 7mp with optical zoom. It is small and fits in a pocket with high dustproof and waterproof ratings. I think it did great for the $10 cost! They are on Ebay for about $20 and up. Manual link
With this I can get good photos, not be afraid of some dust or weather, and keep my phone charged (or off) and in a secure place. I think I will use it much more. I'm always happy to support the Goodwill and get a great deal on cool stuff!
