I’m Walking Backwards

I started walking backwards. No not all the time! I do it at a park when I walk about 1.5 to 2 miles on kind of a track. It is a really short track, about 0.1 miles, and I do about half a lap backwards.

I had a really annoying IT band problem on my left hip. Walking backwards has helped and lots of stretching is also in my mix.

In addition to that I think it has improved my balance and overall flexibility. I walk slower when I go backwards and I really feel different muscles have been worked later that night and the next day.

Another bonus is that it burns more calories

The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) states that backward walking is much more efficient than forward walking when it comes to burning calories.
reverse walking can burn approximately 40% more calories per minute than brisk walking.
A 2014-study analyzed the impact of backward walking on body composition in pre-obese individuals. 30 subjects, between 20 and 40 years of age, took part in a four-week backward walking program. Participants walked in reverse on a 30-meter track for 30 minutes, 5 times a week. After analyzing the results, scientists found out that backward walking causes a high energy expenditure and can contribute to a noticeable reduction in body weight.
